Part of Harrisburg Ballet Theater's mission is to promote the art of dance in Central Pennsylvania. One of the ways we do this is through our outreach programs. Below are some of our outreach initiatives:
Lecture Demonstrations HBT extends into the community with these free performances. Held at area festivals, malls, senior living centers, day cares and hospitals, dancers share their love for dance with the citizens of PA. Programs include demonstration of some of the different styles of dance that HBT teaches, as well as previews of upcoming performances. These program touch the lives of people who may not otherwise be able to enjoy the freedom and beauty of dance. It cultivates an appreciation for dance that stays with an individual for a lifetime.
Special Performances Each Nutcracker HBT holds and special performance for Girls Scouts and school children. For a reduced ticket price, these children may attend a matinee of the classic Nutcracker. In addition, they are invited to a special event before the performance. There they will see how the dancers prepare themselves for a show. It is a facinating glimps behind the scenes that most people never get to see.
Girls Scout Dance Badge Program: All About Dance HBT partners with the Gril Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania for this annual program. The program is in two parts. The first part takes place at The Dance Center studios. The girls tour the facility to see the inner workings of a dance studio. They then get to try first-hand different dance styles, including ballet, tap, jazz and modern. They are given the tools to be able to complete the requirements for their dance badge. The second part is attending a Harrisburg Ballet Theater production. Here the girls can use their new knowledge and appreciation of dance to enjoy this evening of new works.
