The Harrisburg Dance Conservatory has been a fixture of the Harrisburg community for over 30 years. It was founded by Forrest Gehret, the “father of dance” in Harrisburg, on the vision of having a home for quality dance education, quality dance performance, all in a safe and professional atmosphere. The current leadership of the Harrisburg Dance Conservatory continues this proud tradition. The quality of dance instruction is at an all-time high.Teachers herald from professional companies, hold degrees from top-notch colleges, and have experience in film as well as stage productions.A number of our teachers also studied with Forrest Gehret. They impart the passion he felt for dance and work to keep his vision alive.Harrisburg Dance Conservatory’s students benefit from this experience and passion of their teachers. Any audience member can tell you that Harrisburg Dance Conservatory and Ensemble productions have all the best elements of dance. They are quality productions with breath-taking dancing and costumes. They also show the versatility of the company and its dancers. From classical (Nutcracker and Cinderella) to contemporary (inconnu and Discover the Way) and everything in between (the humorous The Cracked Nut), Harrisburg Dance Conservatory and Ensemble have something for every dance lover. What is most unique about this Central Pennsylvania home for dance is the atmosphere. Many schools across the country have reached the technical heights of the Harrisburg Dance Conservatory, but their atmosphere can be stifling or harsh. The Harrisburg Dance Conservatory reaches all its achievements while creating a safe and accepting family environment where dancers can experience the joys of dance freely. Providing Harrisburg's most well-rounded dance education based in classical ballet and including quality instruction and experience in contemporary ballet, modern, jazz, tap and hip hop. It is truly a unique home for creativity!
"Know that you and all of your colleagues at the Harrisburg Dance Conservatory have my personal and this City's full support, endorsement and very best wishes for continuing success." - Mayor Stephen R. Reed, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
The Harrisburg Dance Conservatory, founded in 1975, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of dance in the Central Pennsylvania area and to the education of dancers for cultural enrichment, personal development and enjoyment. The Conservatory's progressive curriculum and training serve both those who aspire to a professional dance career and those who dance purely for the enjoyment of dance. Students who participate in our program are taught discipline and dedication in a positive and professional atmosphere.
